# Penalty fares

FynBus carries out ticket inspections on buses in accordance with section 29 of the Danish Transport Companies Act and the joint national travel regulations.

You must show your ticket if the driver or a ticket inspector asks to see it.

If you cannot show a valid ticket or travel card, you will be issued a penalty fare.

You are responsible for having a valid ticket or travel card before boarding. Passengers aged 16 or over are considered adults on FynBus buses.

The penalty fare is DKK 1,000 for adults and DKK 500 for children and dogs.

You can submit an objection if you disagree with the penalty fare you have received.

**Please note: All enquiries about penalty fares must be submitted in writing. FynBus cannot assist you by phone. The response time for enquiries about penalty fares is 14 days.**

## Information and complaints

## Receiving and paying a penalty fare

###

I met a ticket inspector – how and when will I receive the penalty fare?

FynBus makes the final decision on a penalty fare based on the information provided by the ticket inspector.

As a general rule, the penalty fare will be sent to your e-Boks within a few days. If you are exempt from receiving Digital Post, you will receive the invoice by letter in your physical mailbox instead.

###

Why have I received a penalty fare for my dog?

You must buy a child ticket for your dog if it is too large to be carried in a bag, as stated in [Joint National Travel Regulations](https://en.fynbus.dk/MOLIRIPAGE/74abb6f1-dd0d-44f4-a072-ade04e1ddc4b "Joint National Travel Regulations"). The penalty fare is DKK 500.

###

How does FynBus process my personal data?

FynBus and the ticket inspectors process your personal data in the ticket inspection penalty fare system.

Under data protection legislation, you have the right to access and correct the personal data that FynBus holds about you.

[Read FynBus' privacy policy.](https://fynbus.dk/om-fynbus/det-med-smaat/privatlivspolitik "Read FynBus' privacy policy.") (in Danish)

###

How do I pay my penalty fare?

Use the FI payment code shown on the penalty fare notice when paying the penalty fare to FynBus.

If you need help paying the penalty fare, please contact your bank.

If you cannot pay the penalty fare through online banking, you can also pay it at the FynBus Customer Centre at Odense Central Station.

###

Can I get a discount or arrange a payment plan?

FynBus does not offer discounts on penalty fares, including for students.

However, you can arrange a payment plan if you are unable to pay the full amount at once.

You must [contact FynBus in writing](https://en.fynbus.dk/MOLIRIPAGE/f93e885d-b749-45a7-89c7-001361bda3e8 "contact FynBus in writing") if you would like a payment plan. Please note that FynBus does not offer payment plans lasting more than four months.

###

Can my penalty fare be reduced?

Passengers who have a valid personal commuter pass but cannot show it during an inspection can have the penalty fare reduced to DKK 125.

This also applies to passengers travelling within the fixed-price area of their Rejsekort with Pendler Kombi, provided the commuter period is active.

To process your request for a reduced penalty fare, FynBus needs the following information to confirm that your personal commuter pass was valid when you received the penalty fare:

- Rejsekort/Basiskort: card number
- Rejsebillet: phone number
- DSB app: a screenshot showing your customer ID

###

What happens if I do not pay my penalty fare?

If you do not pay the penalty fare or the subsequent payment reminders from FynBus, the outstanding amount, including reminder fees, will be transferred to the Danish Debt Collection Agency (Gældsstyrelsen) for recovery.

###

Why has Gældssyrelsen deducted the penalty fare from my salary?

The Danish Debt Collection Agency (Gældsstyrelsen) recovers debts owed to public authorities, including penalty fares. Special deductions may be made from your salary to recover penalty fare debt.

If you have questions about deductions from your salary, please contact the Danish Debt Collection Agency.

###

Why has the penalty fare been deducted from my tax refund?

The Danish Debt Collection Agency (Gældsstyrelsen) recovers debts owed to public authorities, including penalty fares. The debt may be deducted from any tax refund due to you.

If you have questions about the deduction, please contact the Danish Debt Collection Agency.

I was checked in using someone else’s personal Basiskort

If you travel alone using someone else’s personal Basiskort, you are travelling without a valid ticket.

Using a personal Basiskort without the cardholder being present is considered misuse.

Misuse may result in the ticket being confiscated, the matter being reported to the police and the transport company claiming compensation in addition to the standard penalty fare. You must show the commuter pass and pay the administration fee before the payment deadline. Otherwise, you must pay the full penalty fare. Contact FynBus through the [contact form](https://en.fynbus.dk/MOLIRIPAGE/66fccc90-f841-4bac-8b76-60509e21c76e "contact form").

When you order a new period for your commuter pass, you must remember to activate it. Do this by checking in with the card on your first journey after ordering the period. You are responsible for ensuring that the pass is activated before starting your journey.

If it has not been activated, the period is not valid and you are travelling without a valid ticket.

If you have not activated a new period by checking in when boarding the bus, you will receive a penalty fare during a ticket inspection.

If you do not meet the above requirements for using commuter passes, you should not expect your objection to the penalty fare to be upheld.
